In December, Heart of the Valley Children’s Choir’s female a capella group, the Unmentionables, sang at Portland Grotto in the Catholic chapel. Maya shares the solos with several members as they sing “King of Anything”.

Farewell Concert (off to Austria & Cech Republic)!

Maya’s Chamber Choir is currently in Austria for the Mozart Choir Festival. Here is a glimpse of their farewell concert from June 25, 2011 at the Presbyterian Church in Corvallis.

Track 2011 Highlights

May 21 State Finals at UofO’s Hayward Field, Gazette-Times. Maya’s 4×100 meter relay team came in 4th with a time of 49.54!

April 27 Track Meet vs South Albany, Gazette-Times. Maya wins the 100 and 200 meter races.

April 6 Track Meet vs CV, Gazette-Times quotes Maya about the 200m race.

Mr. Spartan a Capella Night

Anna Lind and Maya Van Londen sing an Aretha Franklin favorite, A Natural Woman, with The Unmentionables from Heart of the Valley Children’s Choir of Corvallis, Oregon. They are helping raise funds for the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation at the annual Mr. Spartan a Capella Night .

Senior Night at CHS

Maya sang the Star Spangled Banner at the Corvallis High School Girls Basketball game tonight. It was the senior girl’s last game.

Maya sang Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing, a traditional anthem in the African-American community, at the January 13, 2011 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at the Majestic Theater in Corvallis, Oregon. She followed main speaker Shelley Moon, poet, playwright and proud instigator of social change.

The song “was publicly performed first as a poem as part of a celebration of Lincoln’s Birthday on February 12, 1900 by 500 school children at the segregated Stanton School.

Its principal, James Weldon Johnson, wrote the words to introduce its honored guest Booker T. Washington. The poem was later set to music by Johnson’s brother John in 1905. CHS Varsity Soccer

Maya made 4 or 5 goals this season as a freshman. Her team won the Mid-Willamette District Championship and made it to the Quarterfinals in the State Championship.

Special Olympics Soccer Camp

As a varsity soccer team member, Maya was able to participate in the Special Olympics soccer camp this weekend.

I just wanted to pass along to you that Maya was a great volunteer at Special Olympics on Sunday. As usual, she had a great upbeat attitude and was very friendly and encouraging to the athletes. Please let her know that her positive attitude was noticed and appreciated. —Varsity Parent
